Recording days are one of my favourite parts of content creation, but they require a bit of prep. In fact, it all begins the night before!
I like to start by setting up my staging area, making sure that everything I need is organised and ready. This includes putting away personal items or any little distractions like toys or knick-knacks that might make an appearance in the background of your video.
I also like to lay out a couple of outfit options for the next day—because, let’s be honest, even though content is key, the visual aspect still matters.
I also make sure that my tripods are set up, and ready to go, and my recording lights are positioned just right. I have two recording spots planned: one at my desk with my webcam, and another with a wider setup where I can move around more freely. Having these options makes my recording flow more flexible and allows me to create different types of content in one go.
Neutral Outfits and Accessories
On the day of recording, I keep things simple. Neutral base outfits are the way to go because they provide a clean, consistent look while letting me quickly switch up earrings or accessories between takes. I try to avoid anything too bold or distracting—keeping things classy but simple is key.
For anyone else planning a recording day, whether you’re a woman or a man, it’s helpful to have a few variations on hand. Men can swap out ties, while women can switch up their jewellery or scarves to make it look like different recording sessions.
My earrings are a fun part of the process for me—I’ve got several pairs ready to mix and match with different tops throughout the day. But again, simplicity is key. You want your audience focused on your message, not your outfit!
Prepping Notes and the Content Plan
When it comes to the actual recording, I’m all about efficiency. One way to keep the process smooth is by preparing all my notes ahead of time. I have a tablet with my recording notes loaded and ready to go, and I also print out a presentation list for quick reference. Knowing exactly what I need to cover helps me focus, especially when I’m aiming to record multiple videos in one go.
Switching It Up and Staying Fresh
Recording multiple videos means switching between different outfits and looks throughout the day. After my base look is sorted, I change tops, put on a bit of lipstick, and get ready to roll. A good coffee break helps keep the energy going, too!
One thing I’d love to show more of is the behind-the-scenes action, where I move from one recording space to another.
Technical Glitches and Wins
Of course, recording days come with their own set of challenges. But after a few laughs and adjustments, I powered through and managed to record 17 videos in one day. Each video is between two to five minutes long, helping me engage with my audience in bite-sized chunks.
Once the recording wraps, the next step is editing. I use Descript for this process, which helps me polish the videos and ensure the final product is just right. It’s all about maximising time and being efficient with the content you create.
Batch Recording Videos
Recording days can be chaotic, but they’re so rewarding. By batching my content, I’m able to stay consistent with my audience and make the most of the time I’ve set aside. I hope this behind-the-scenes look gives you some insight into how I handle my process. Now, I’m excited to see what you create when you batch your content!
