If you’ve ever thought about creating a chatbot for your business but weren’t quite sure where to start, this walkthrough is just for you. As an ideas and marketing strategist, I’m all about showing you how to save time using automation in your marketing. So let’s dive into building a chatbot with Chatbase, the tool we’ll be using today.
Why Build a Chatbot?
Chatbots are a fantastic addition to any website. They allow you to automatically answer visitor questions, direct them to resources, and even collect leads, all without you lifting a finger. If you’ve visited the Enever Group website, you’ve likely met Ellie, our chatbot. Ellie helps visitors find courses, book calls, and get information quickly and efficiently.
In this video, the goal is to create something similar for the Youngpreneurs Society website, a chatbot that can answer questions about podcasts, shop pages, and other resources while making life easier for our visitors.
What You Need to Get Started
Building a chatbot is easier than you think! Here’s what you’ll need:
- A Chatbase Account: You can get started for free, so there’s no need to invest upfront.
- Your Website Links: Gather links to important pages like your shop, podcast, FAQ section, and other key resources.
- FAQs and Common Questions: Think about the queries your audience frequently asks and prepare answers.
- Testimonial Pages: If you want to showcase social proof, you can integrate these as well.
This setup will give you a solid foundation for building a chatbot that’s functional and engaging.
Setting Up Your Chatbot
Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up a chatbot using Chatbase:
Start with Key Pages
After logging into Chatbase, head to the dashboard and create a new chatbot. Begin by adding links to your website’s essential pages. For the Youngpreneurs Society, I added:
- Podcast pages
- Shop pages
- Membership information
- Business ideas and mindset topics
You can also upload a sitemap to quickly pull in all your website’s links and choose which ones to use.
Train the Chatbot
Chatbase starts indexing the content on the linked pages to build the chatbot’s knowledge base. This allows the chatbot to answer visitor questions based on the information it’s trained on.
Add Custom Q&A
To make your chatbot even more helpful, add custom questions and answers. For example, I added:
- Question: “How do I appear on the podcast?”
- Answer: A link to the podcast contact form so users can easily get in touch.
Think about the specific queries your audience might have and address them directly in the chatbot.
Fine-Tune the Settings
Chatbase lets you customise your chatbot’s functionality. You can:
- Enable lead collection (e.g., name, email, phone number).
- Set up notifications to receive daily summaries of leads and conversations.
- Connect webhooks to redirect users to a thank-you page or other tools like ClickUp or Acuity.
Customise the Look and Feel
Your chatbot doesn’t have to look generic. You can:
- Give it a name (we’re calling the Youngpreneurs chatbot “Frank” for now!).
- Add a profile picture and custom chat icon.
- Choose message colours and adjust the position on your website.
You can even set an initial message that auto-pops after a few seconds, like: “Hi, I’m Frank! How can I help you today?”
Test and Optimise
Once everything is set up, test the chatbot in Chatbase’s playground. Ask it questions, refine its responses, and make adjustments as needed. This is also a great time to ensure it’s picking up on the right information from your website.
Bringing It All Together
Once your chatbot is ready, you can:
- Make it live and embed it on your website.
- Automatically connect it to WordPress for a seamless integration.
The result? A helpful, interactive assistant that boosts user engagement, collects leads, and saves you time.

Creating a chatbot doesn’t have to be daunting. With tools like Chatbase and a bit of planning, you can build one that enhances your website, engages visitors, and frees you up to focus on what you do best.
If you’re ready to give it a go, start small, test often, and let your chatbot grow alongside your business. Happy building!
