Optimist / Pessimist. Which have you chosen? Which will you choose?

The lot of each is driven by the same energy. An energy that invites your use of itself. An energy that has little care for what you are using it. It just asks that you direct it the way you want, to deliver the outcome you seek.

And therein lies the conundrum. What you seek is what is delivered. If you are an optimist, you seek happy outcomes. If you are a pessimist, you make choices likely to deliver less happy outcomes.

Helen Keller in her essay “Optimism” wrote this: [If you are not familiar with Helen Keller, please research the essay here. Courtesy of Project Gutenberg.]

  • “Most people measure their happiness in terms of physical pleasure and material possession. Could they win some visible goal which they have set on the horizon, how happy they would be! Lacking this gift or that circumstance, they would be miserable. If happiness is to be so measured, I who cannot hear or see have every reason to sit in a corner with folded hands and weep. If I am happy in spite of my deprivations, if my happiness is so deep that it is a faith, so thoughtful that it becomes a philosophy of life,–if, in short, I am an optimist, my testimony to the creed of optimism is worth hearing.”

What stops us from being an optimist is our self. What allows us to decide to be an optimist is our self. The choice is entirely our own.

The decision to achieve what we want, to be an optimist is entirely ours.

If you are not an optimist – give being optimistic a try. You might find it a wonderful way to live your life. If you are an optimist, keep encouraging others to also be an optimist.

I encourage you to, ‘Go forward with positive intent, a kind heart and a generous spirit.’ Clive Enever

To be more optimistic: be conscious of your thoughts, because

  • Your thoughts become what you say; &
  • What you say becomes what you do.
  • What you do becomes habit; &
  • Habit determines your destiny.
